Participants in this course learn acceptable industry standards for working with Aerial lifts and boom lift platforms. The course focuses on the OSHA requirements for the safe operation of these vehicle-mounted platforms as well as on the effective use personal fall protection devices.
This class will cover the following subjects:
Case studies
Dynamics and physical forces associated with falls
General hazards associated with aerial lift platforms
Operating and emergency controls
Safe operating procedures
Personal protective devices
Overhead obstructions
Tires and wheels
Placards, warnings, control markings and operating manual
Battery, hydraulic, and coolant fluid level
Battery recharging
Equipment inspection
Practical Exercises:
All program participants take part in hands-on demonstrations on the operation of the aerial lift. They are required to demonstrate their safe operation proficiency through means of maneuvering the lift controls and operating the vehicle. Their immediate supervisor is required to fill out and send in the certification form to SELA.
Pass/Fail Criterion:
Student passes upon the following:
Demonstrate the ability to apply aerial lift techniques to the work environment.
Recognize both safety and health hazards in a variety of scenarios.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of a job safety analysis and safe operating procedures.
Student fails upon the following:
Demonstrating lack of knowledge on any of the above items.
Performs any act in an unsafe manner.
Does not score the minimum 80% on written examination.
The employer must ensure that each operator is evaluated to confirm that he/she understands the information provided in the training for there certification. Download the certification form after completing the qualification study program.
